Extreme athletes with History Expeditions are retracing the route of the ill-fated Grosh Brothers starting on Feb. 27, with stops in the Tahoe region. The Grosh Brothers believed they found the Comstock Lode but died before they could claim it at the assayer’s office in San Francisco. The expedition will start in Silver City, Nev., and end at Last Chance, Calif.
The group will be at the Gatekeeper’s Museum in Tahoe City on Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. for a fireside chat.
On March 1, the team will run/snowshoe to Palisades Tahoe for a stop in front of Snowshoe Thompson’s statue in the Village around 8:30 a.m. They will then continue their trek through the backcountry to end at a quiet ceremony at the gravesite of E. Allen Grosh on March 3.
History Expeditions members also completed the Forlorn Hope and Donner Relief expeditions. | historyexp.org
