The restoration of the 104-year-old Pioneer Monument at Donner Memorial State Park in Truckee was recently completed, according to the Sierra State Parks Foundation.
The Pioneer Monument was dedicated on June 6, 1918, and was erected in honor of all who made the difficult trek across the western plains and mountains to reach California during the 1840s. The next step in the Donner Project being spearheaded by the Foundaiton is to improve the site’s landscape to include a trail, shady trees, native vegetation and benches for group seating. | sierrastateparks.org
