The 10th annual C.R. Johnson Memorial Lion Heart Art Show will be on Feb. 7 at Riverside Studios in Truckee. C.R. Johnson was a local Tahoe skier who was an inspiration to all. His infectious spirit was welcome from the terrain park where he landed the first-ever 1440 on skis to the sets of various ski movies to the Winter X Games. His iconic red, yellow and green ski outfits were instantly recognizable. Unfortunately, he died from a skiing accident in February 2010.
High Fives Foundation and the Johnson family dedicated its rehabilitation center to his memory: C.R. Johnson Healing Center is where athletes in recovery from outdoor, sports-related injuries can receive physical therapy, massage, training and more.
The Lion Heart Art Show, started as a fundraiser by C.R.’s sister, local leather artist Kahlil Johnson, and High Fives Foundation has been going strong for a decade. This year’s event is from 4 to 8 p.m.
Local artists will showcase mixed media available for purchase on 12-inch-by-12-inch panels of wood ($100) or sets of 4-inch-by-2-foot planks ($200). All proceeds go to C.R. Johnson Healing Center. Works not sold will remain on the wall of Riverside Studios, available for purchase for the month of February. | Facebook Riverside Studios Truckee
