Alpenglow Sports announces the debut of “A Skintrack Mind,” a new design from local artist and adventurer Bryn Merrell. Created especially for Alpenglow Sports, “A Skintrack Mind” long-sleeve T-shirts and crew-neck sweatshirts are now available.

Now in its third year, the local artist initiative was created to support Tahoe artists through a partnership with the shop. The concept is simple: work with a local, hand-picked artist, print his or her exclusive work on comfortable and good-looking apparel and give the artist a healthy portion of each sale. For all three years of the initiative, a quote from Marc Chagall has been particularly pertinent: “Great art picks up where nature ends.”

The first Local Artist Initiative debuted in winter of 2016 featuring a mountain design by Tahoe native and artist Brian Orr. In 2017, Alpenglow Sports chose a design also by Merrell featuring a colorful interpretation of Mount Whitney.

According to Merrell, she had not painted for a long time before she moved from Arizona to California, where her artistic passion was reignited.

“Living and playing in Tahoe City, I often use the Sierra as a vessel for my inspiration,” she said in a press release. “When I am outside, I can’t help but to see our town in a whimsical and colorful way. I try to translate this into my work so that I can share this same artistic mindset to others who also find joy in the mountains.”
