A storm system that moved into the region on Tuesday, Dec. 4, and continued in the morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 5, has brought up to 7 inches of new snow to Tahoe Sierra ski areas.

Low pressure off the California coast will slowly move inland through Thursday, Dec. 6, with areas of light snow persisting into early Friday, Dec. 7, before tapering off. The weekend of Dec. 8 and 9 will be dry with milder temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

Although, this storm was not as powerful as expected, a number of resorts were able to reopen or open with the additional inches of snow and the colder temperatures, including Homewood Mountain Resort, Tahoe Cross Country, Tahoe Donner Cross Country and Royal Gorge.

More snow Monday

There will be a chance of snow showers on Sunday night, with snow more likely on Monday and into early Tuesday morning. Accumulations are expected of up to 1 to 2 inches.

Mid-month a storm track may shift into the Pacific Northwest that could bring snow if it moves far enough south to hit the Tahoe region. Currently, the forecast models show the next possible storm pushing south into Central California around Dec. 14.
