Tahoe local Jonathan Richard Grant has released his new fiction book “Snow Valley: Last of the Ski Bums.”
The novel is “the story of Mike the Mustached Ski Bum and the simple villagers of Snow Valley as they fight to stave off sinister Valeman and the greed of SkiCorp. Soul skiing is good, freedom is wild – and revolution is rad,” according to a release from the book’s publisher, Happy Living Books.
“I had been falling in love with skiing ever since attending UC Davis and coming up on day trips and such with my friends. I came to value the freedom of skiing over the rigidity of the gridiron,” Grant told Tahoe Weekly in an e-mail.
Grant moved to Tahoe in 2009 and has lived in locations around Tahoe including stints in a van in the Squaw Valley parking lot and in a tent.
“ ‘Snow Valley’ is a fictitious Squaw and places like Truckton and Nero and Lake Sur will feel familiar to our friends,” Grant said. “The story is not the story of KSL or Vail or something acute like that, rather an allegory of big guys taking over little guys, pertaining to the narrative of ‘many things coming to be owned by fewer entities,’ which goes against nature’s laws of balance.” | happyliving.com/books
