Alpenglow Sports will host three community avalanche beacon seminars and practice sessions with Mammut on Nov. 16 and Dec. 11 and Black Diamond on Nov. 28. Fun-filled, free and educational, these evenings will be held behind the shop at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park.

Back-country ski and snowboard season is coming and an educated and well-prepared community is the best way to avoid winter sports disaster. This event will help attendees better understand avalanche beacon function and the recent technological advancements of these vital back-country tools. The evening is free to attend and will last two hours, starting at 5 p.m.

Each event will consist of an outdoor component that will cover basic and multiple burial scenarios, as well as over-arching safety themes. During this hands-on practice, Alpenglow will have a small fleet of beacons on hand for practice and knowledgeable experts will be available to teach proper avalanche beacon usage. Participants who own beacons should bring them, as well as a headlamp. Dress for winter conditions. All ages and skill levels are welcome. | (530) 583-6917, brendan@alpenglowsports.com
