Join local clean-up days
Volunteers are needed to help clean up local communities as the summer kicks off in the Tahoe Sierra. Join local clean-up efforts in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee on June 2, with the North Tahoe Clean Up Day starting at the Community House in Kings Beach, the Tahoe City Clean-Up Day at Commons Beach in Tahoe City, and several stations at locations throughout Truckee. Lake Tahoe Basin Fuelwood
The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of personal use fuelwood permits at the Forest Supervisor’s Office in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, June 4, and at the Incline Village Forest Service office on Wednesday, June 6.  Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household. The Forest Supervisor’s Office is at 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The Incline Village Forest Service office is at 855 Alder Avenue, Incline Village, Nevada and is open Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.|

Golf for schools
Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation is offering Golfing for Schools cards. The transferable card is $345 and allows one round of golf at each of the seven participating courses. Cards purchased on the opening weekend will be entered into a drawing for a foursome at Schaffer’s Mill Golf and Lake Club or Ponderosa Golf Course in Truckee.

Support for families
Kings Beach
North Tahoe Family Resource Center offers support and assistance for local families. The Community Child Car Seat Program offers free car-seat safety checks, car-seat installations and discounted car seats to qualifying families. Certified car-seat technicians will answer all questions. Interested parents must make an appointment.

Tickets for military
American Century Championship offers all active duty and retired servicemen and servicewomen one complimentary ticket and one complimentary guest ticket for each day of the 29th annual celebrity golf tournament from July 10 to 15. This offer is also extended to reservists, National Guard and veterans. This offer is only valid with online registration prior to the event. A Department of Defense issued ID or photo ID is required when redeeming tickets at the tournament. Handicap and wheelchair entry is accommodated at the tournament tent area. Handicap parking is located at the rear parking lot of the Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe for a nominal fee. |

Input sought
Nevada State Historic Preservation Office is seeking public involvement in the development of a new Comprehensive Statewide Historic Preservation Plan that will identify goals that federal, state and local governments should accomplish in the coming years. Every eight years, the Preservation Office is required to produce a new statewide preservation plan to guide those efforts. Public input will help the office better understand the needs and desires of Nevadans on preservation issues and help establish priorities and goals. The current plan, which expires December 2019, can be found at The public is invited to take an online survey that will be available until May 31.

Police offer equipment registry
Truckee Police Department offers a ski, snowboard and bicycle registration program to help in identifying and recovering lost or stolen skis, snowboards and bicycles.

Volunteer for food bank
Project MANA seeks volunteers to help sort and organize donated food items for distribution. Some tasks require heavy lifting and physical activity. Volunteer time slots are from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Monday and Tuesday mornings for an hour, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and Monday through Friday in the morning. Affordable, reliable transportation
The Senior Transportation Program includes regular transportation opportunities for shopping, errands, outings and medical or personal appointments. This door-to-door, reliable, affordable, service provides alternating trips to Reno and Carson City on Tuesdays and to local destinations in Incline Village, Crystal Bay and Kings Beach on Wednesdays. Truckee is on the third Wednesday of the month. The regular weekly fee is $5.

Conservation programs help businesses
Truckee Donner Public Utility District has a suite of conservation programs available to qualifying business or commercial customers. These programs help save energy and water and minimize related operating expenses. Many programs are free or offset the costs of a project resulting in a return on investment.
The Commercial Lighting Rebate Program pays up to one-third of project costs to upgrade to high-efficiency lighting. The Business Green Partners Program provides free energy- and water-saving measures including screw-in LED and CFL light bulbs. The Commercial Refrigeration Program provides free energy-efficient refrigeration controls, motors, case lighting and infiltration barriers after a comprehensive refrigeration energy audit and proposal from Truckee Donner PUD’s installation contractor. | (530) 582-3963 or

Small business help offered
The Small Business Development Center offers consulting services to existing and pre-venture small businesses in the Truckee area. Statistics show that 90 percent of businesses with current business plans can realize goals, while 85 percent of businesses that fail do not have a business plan.
