Short explores the future of freeheel skiing

Brian Walker

The short film “Future Freeheel” features some of the most progressive telemark skiing to date. Long-time telemark athlete Ty Dayberry discusses his views about the current state of freeheel skiing and the influences that fuels his passion for the sport in the film.

“The idea behind ‘Future Freeheel’ is to showcase the current state of telemark skiing in 2017,” says Dayberry. “The idea is to show why we choose to freeheel ski. By presenting the viewer with the highest level of telemark skiing, we hope to answer the question of ‘Why telemark skiing?’ The perspective is from my view point and highlights my opinions about our sport, and the influences that make me excited to telemark.

The film was shot primarily in the Lake Tahoe backcountry, Sierra-at-Tahoe, along with some international locations. Daniel Vega is editing the piece and footage is from numerous local videographers. The athletes are Erik Nordin, Andreas Sojobeck, Colby Albino and Dayberry.

Local Freshies and South Lake Brewing Company will show the film on Nov. 17, along with the Tahoe premiere of Transworld Snowboarding’s film “Arcadia” and “Bird Flu Crew, The Movie” at South Lake Brewing Company on Nov. 17. The evening also features the premiere of the new Red Bull Holden Racing Team video.

This Pray for Snow Party is also a fundraiser for the Sierra Avalanche Center. This event will be the perfect mix of local, snow and fun to help kick off the ski season. Be sure to come hungry as local food truck High on Food will be serving gourmet popcorn as well as tasty theater treats like nachos, hot dogs and much more.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. for this free all ages event.
