Throwing a hat into the ring for the ongoing battle to be the first resort to open in the basin, Mount Rose Ski Tahoe has set its sights on Oct. 29 as its earliest projected opening day in history.
With a base elevation of 8,260 feet, the resort is known for receiving top-to-bottom snow when winter storms pass through the region. Mount Rose is adding to this natural advantage with the installation of nine new Polecat tower-mounted snow machines, including four specifically positioned towers at the base of Slide Bowl. These new machines will enhance the resort’s ability to efficiently make snow over even more of the mountain and will allow terrain to be opened quickly.
An expanded snowmaking system coupled with an improved pray-for-snow-dance specifically targeted at conjuring the “Godzilla El Nino” predicted by weather blogs across snow country, will hopefully allow Mount Rose to beat last season’s earliest opening on Oct. 32 at Boreal Resort.
