Graeagle Meadows Golf Course is located in the scenic Mohawk Valley, 47 miles northwest of Truckee in Graeagle. No one should be discouraged by where it’s located; a trip to Graeagle to play this course and visit the town is a day well spent and memorable.
The front nine opened in 1968 with the back nine shortly following in 1970. The course is in great condition and offers 6,725 yards of extreme golf, with lofty pines, lots of water and elevated tees that offer the ultimate golf experience.
The par 4, 4th hole, is the No. 1 handicap hole that is an uphill, dogleg right hole with a small green in which there is a sand hazard in the front right location. The open space to the right of this fairway is a favorite hunting ground for the red tailed hawk and an occasional golden eagle, which feed on the mice, gophers and rodents that inhabit the area.
The par 5, 5th hole, is the first par 5 and presents a view of six mountain peaks in the area – Mounts Washington, Elwell, Penman, Eureka, Mills and Haskel. A solid first and second shot will likely leave you with a relatively easy third shot for a chance at a birdie. Adjacent to the men’s tee is the old Conant homesite where George Conant built a home for his family in the 1920s. He was Graeagle’s only barber for more than 30 years and his wife served as postmistress for much of that time.
The Graeagle Meadows Clubhouse offers breakfast and lunch daily. The deck has been remodeled and offers spectacular panoramic views. It also has a driving range and putting greens to practice your game before your round. Don’t forget to check out its pro shop that offers a wide variety of golf apparel and equipment.
Graeagle Meadows Golf Course is located one hour north of Truckee on Highway 89. When you get to Sierraville, turn left onto Highway 49/89. Just past Satley, stay right at the wye entering back onto Highway 89. Graeagle will be about 20 minutes. For tee times, call (530) 836-2323 or visit playgraeagle.com.
