Crest Café offers upscale café menu

The casual, friendly atmosphere at Crest Café that is often filled with locals for lunch, breakfast and afternoon coffee and cookie breaks, is the perfect fit for the creations of Chef/Owner Kyle Davis.

Along with co-owner Lisa Livingston, the duo has created an upscale café menu at affordable prices featuring housemade ingredients and local breads. Crest is the perfect stop before hitting the slopes for a day of skiing or the trails for some mountain biking with the Western States Trail, which is only steps away.

Fuel up with the hearty breakfast burrito filled with a choice of meaty toppings or the veggie chili made from the closely guarded secret recipe. For a quick repast at lunch order the trail lunch to go (advance orders only) or linger on the deck overlooking the Truckee River with oven-baked meatball grinders, Ciabatta paninis or pizzas slathered with housemade marina. Davis’ talents shine in creations like the Asian tri-tip mango wrap and the Philly Cheese Steak.

During a recent visit for lunch, I enjoyed the Veggie Panini with a side of the housemade pasta salad. The Veggie Panini is served on Ciabatta bread with roasted vegetables including red peppers, mushrooms and zucchini and tomatoes, arugula and Fontina and garnished with red pepper aioli. The red pepper aioli was delicate and light, perfectly complementing the vegetables without being overpowering. The pasta salad was great with a variety of pastas, red onions and freshly shaved parmesan.

My sister, Michelle Allen, ordered the Veggie Wrap and added grilled chicken. The tasty spinach tortilla wrap will filled with roasted red peppers, mushrooms and zucchini with perfectly cooked chicken, served with sour cream, salsa and guacamole.

Dinner is served Wednesday to Saturday from 3 to 8 p.m. featuring Trivia and Burger Night on Wednesdays, Sushi on Thursdays, and Wings and Pizza Night on Fridays and Saturdays.
